Award Types
The Award Types page is the catalog of all awards available in your program. Awards are organized by program (e.g., FLL Challenge, FTC) and fall into two categories:
- Program Standard types — Defined by FIRST and shared across all regions running that program. Names and core properties are fixed, but you can customize the color, icon, and ceremony script for your organization.
- Your own types — Awards you create specifically for your partner organization. You control all properties.
Access this page from Region Management → Awards → Award Types.
Program Standard types
Program Standard types are seeded for you and updated when FIRST publishes changes. You will see a “Program Standard” badge on each one. The following properties are read-only:
- Award name
- Category (Champions, Core Awards, Other Awards)
- Whether the award has ranked places (1st, 2nd, etc.)
- Whether the award is used for advancement tracking
The following properties are customizable for your organization:
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Color | The accent color used when displaying this award in the awards board and ceremony views. |
| Icon | The icon shown alongside the award name. |
| Ceremony script | The script text read aloud when this award is presented. |
| Advancing team script | An optional alternate script used when the recipient of this award is also the last advancing team announced. |
Customizing a Program Standard type
- Click the award type row to open it.
- Edit the Color, Icon, or Script fields as needed.
- Save your changes.
Your customizations are stored separately from the FIRST baseline. If FIRST updates the award’s core details, your customizations remain intact.
Resetting to standard
If you want to revert your customizations and use the FIRST-provided defaults:
- Open the award type.
- Click Reset to Standard in the top-right of the detail panel.
- Confirm the reset.
This removes your color, icon, and script overrides. The award will display exactly as FIRST defines it. This action cannot be undone, but you can re-enter customizations at any time.
Your own award types
Partner-created types appear in the same list alongside Program Standard types but without the “Program Standard” badge. You have full control over these.
Creating a custom award type
- Click Add Award Type.
- Fill in the required fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The public-facing award name (e.g., “Gracious Professionalism Spotlight”). |
| Program | Which robotics program this award belongs to. |
| Category | Champions, Core Awards, or Other Awards. Controls where it appears on results pages. |
| Color | Display accent color. |
| Icon | Display icon. |
- Optionally add a ceremony script and advancing team script.
- Save.
Editing and deleting custom types
Click any custom type row to edit it. All fields are editable.
Custom types can be deleted as long as they are not referenced by any award template. If a type is in use, remove it from all templates first.
Scripts for award types
The script fields on an award type contain the text that is read aloud during a ceremony when this award is announced. Scripts support rich text formatting.
For Program Standard types, the script might begin with something like: “The Champion’s Award is presented to the team that best represents the ideals and values of the program at this event…”
Scripts are versioned — see Script versioning for details. Once you save a new version, it becomes active for all upcoming events. Completed events continue to display the version that was active at the time of their ceremony.
Tip: Script pages (ceremony introductions, transitions, closings) are separate from per-award scripts. Manage those under Script Pages.
