Volunteers

Lumieos includes a full volunteer management system for robotics competition events. Whether you are signing up to help at an event or coordinating a team of volunteers, this section walks through every step.

Who this section is for

Volunteers are community members who sign up to help run events. They go through a sign-up flow, complete screening and training requirements, and receive a role assignment before event day.

Volunteer Coordinators are event staff who review applications, assign volunteers to roles, and manage the day-of roster.

How the volunteer flow works

Volunteering at an event follows a predictable sequence:

  1. Sign up — You submit an application through your Volunteer Dashboard, choosing which event(s) you want to attend and your preferred roles.
  2. Screening — Lumieos checks your screening status through the national FIRST Volunteer Management System. Some volunteers are exempt based on age or existing credentials.
  3. Assignment — A coordinator reviews applications and assigns you to a specific role. You receive an email confirmation.
  4. Training — Once assigned, any required training modules for your role appear in your Training tab. You complete them before event day.
  5. Event day — You arrive by your call time and check in on site.

Your Volunteer Dashboard

All volunteer activity for your account lives at My Account → Volunteer Dashboard. The dashboard has three tabs:

  • Applications — Your current and past event registrations.
  • Training — Required training modules for your assigned roles.
  • Screening — Your FIRST background check status.

You can also edit your volunteer profile (shirt size, past experience, etc.) using the Edit Volunteer Profile link at the top of the dashboard.
